Finds cross w/ helmet (grave of Military Man), jarred by 4 anachronistic jets overhead (other 4 men’s heavenbound souls, un-timeliness Embry’s precognitive awareness of man’s future); scrambles thru fuselage (wreckage of phallus: sexual innuendo also for single 41-yr-old) for clues, "What’s goin’ on?" refrain + "Please let me in on it, God" humans’ abandonment on earth, crewmen Embry’s own lost soul-life, he Christ in similar desert (à la cross, again). Wakes up in hospital in 1960 (late realization of unacknowledged seismic impact of War), after found incoherent on street (social upwelling), allegedly on reading CHRONICLE headline WWII BOMBER FOUND INTACT IN DESERT (aboriginal Killer Phallus preserved, shock memory of which throws Self into Zone: great change still not effected); discharged in ’43 (ejection from Air Force as from plane: objectivity yielding revelation) w/ psychological problems (inaccessible memory jamming Self/society, dischg Prophet’s ostracization [ghost-crewman Blake’s ridicule from inside "cock"pit]) due to survivor guilt (ironic wages of insight + Un-consc/ientious-Objector alienation) over abstention from last mission (he Captain-God who abandoned own crew, their crash man’s Fall, inevitable + necessary).

Dream/prophecy confirmed when nurse (anima, agent of consolation + regeneration) presents doctors (physician + psychologist Body + Mind deliberating over troubled Soul, latter doc "analyst" piecing psyche back together per Embry’s earlier plea) w/ Capn’s sand-filled shoe (à la penitent’s rocks, or cremated body [CE never seen again: passed from form to essence, illusion to truth, delusion to myth]): suffering proof of his message of damage war does to man, reduction to mineral base end of Military Male in anticipation of re-evolution via enlightened body + mind.
